Dianthus
A genus of easily grown alpines popular amongst cottage gardeners and rockgardeners alike. All the wild forms have a distinct and lovely perfume, and in the garden they are easily cultivated in any sunny drained areas. Dianthus are generally long lived and easily reproduced by cuttings or seed.

Dierama
A beautiful genus from South Africa, otherwise known as ‘Harebells’ or ‘Fairy fishing rods’. Most species flower in a light to dark pink colour range, but whites, purples and burgundy cultivars do exist. All species are a delight in the cottage garden or herbaceous border, and are easily grown on most soils.

Digitalis
A romantic flower which adds so much charachter to the spring cottage garden and border . We find most perennial species resent heavy soils and excessive winter wet, and grow easily in a drained soil in part to full shade to give their best.Amongst roses or under deciedous trees is best, so the plants get some winter sun. In high rainfall areas we recommend dead head the spent flower heads to prevent over seeding.

Eryngium
A group of summer-flowering perennials native to arid climates where most of the annual rain falls in winter or spring. In the garden they are useful architectural plants, requiring very little water and are generally easy to grow. The flower heads are popular for flower arranging, lasting well in a vase.
