A popular and easily grown culinary herb that will form an excellent ground cover and cascade over a bank or wall.
One of the earliest fruiting varieties, with tall vigorous growth habit to 2.1m. Once established, prune out central canes to keep bush open. As with most blueberries, fruit production is improved by planting other varieties nearby. Sweet fruit which stores and freezes well, perfect for jams, pies, or just eaten fresh.
Vigorous herb which needs to be sited with consideration, like comfrey. Grows a bit too well from root cuttings, but worth having in the kitchen garden.
Tasmannia lanceolata. Cutting grown female plants for berry production, grow in part shade in moisture retentive soil. Will grow into small tree once established.
Rose pink flowers in mid summer, great foliage aroma, makes amazing tea which is sweet like licorice. Add spear mint or thyme for cold drinks, add to salad, etc.
Lavandula officianalis. The best variety for the garden and low hedging, living longer than most others providing they get an annual chop. 'Hidecote' is light purple with long flower spikes.
Lavandula officianalis. Like 'Hidecote' but a more intense darker purple colour with shorter blunter flower spikes.
The most flavoursome variety of peppermint, used commonly for tea and oil production. Used medicinally for overcoming nausea and sickness, an easy variety for part shade.
Portugese form of the pink rosemary, more true pink than Majorca pink and less upright, bushier and lower growing.
'Russian Sage'; attractive blue flowers over grey foliage in mid summer onwards. An extremely drought hardy and frost hardy plant that likes well drained soil. Good for hedging and cottage garden with Lavandula 'Hidecote', Iris and blue geraniums.
White flowered form with attractive pink anthers, stout branching habit, good perennial plant.
Bloodroot. An ancient perennial and medicinal plant used by the native American people, it is very toxic and should not be used without professional consultaton. We grow it as an ornamental groundcover in woodland with hostas, epimedium and dicentra, it is deciduous with white flowers.
Otherwise known as Greek oregano; a long flowering border perennial and a good crossover plant between ornamental and culinary usage. White flowers in summer.
Close relative of Echinacea angustifolia, also used in herbal medicine, sharing many similarities. I find it a better garden plant, more vigorous and productive in growth, and manages better in winter wet.
